Westminster thoughts

Did you see the Westminster Dog Show?

Before it started, I knew the Scottish Terrier wasn’t going to win. Sadie won two years ago and they just don’t have the same breed win that close together. It makes sense-we know that if you judged on merit, the Scottie would win all of the time and the other breeds would lose interest (just kidding). I’m not surprised but happy the Westie didn’t win. When a breed wins Westminster, its popularity rises and peeps want THAT dog. Unfortunately for them, Westies are just so darn cute that peeps who think they’re lap dogs and a Cavalier King Charles in a different package go out and get one. Not being terrier peeps, they get the rude awakening and dump the Westies on rescue. Here’s Kenzie’s puppy picture-don’t your peeps just want to cuddle him?

Do you see what’s happening to the German Shepard? I guess the judges think it is cool to have a dog that uses its hind legs to slink around instead of being erect. To me, a GS should be erect and proud and not be slinking around.

This was supposed to be a dog show. The winner appeared to come with rechargable batteries and an AC adapter. It was named something or other but should have been named “Roomba”. However, I suspect it sheds more mess than it mops up. She liked the Doberman, He liked the Irish Setter and I liked the Dalmatian. Kenzie stuck with the terriers and liked the Kerry Blue but I thought it was a bit on the small side. Kismet wants to know when the bird show happens. If we get to see it, the herding group might prove interesting.

The unfortunate thing is that it promotes the pedigreed dog. I’m a full blooded Scottish Terrier but I’m a rescue with no papers. How about a mutt show? I’d watch that. There are a lot of those available in rescue along with full-blooded dogs that are specific breeds.

Stuart, where were you? You were supposed to handle the descriptions of the terrier group.

  1. I was asleep at the proverbial wheel there My Kyla friend. See, I was hanging out with Sniglet during the Show and, well, I got distracted. Even though we terriers are highly focused, I, yes, got distracted.

And, of course, I agree with your assessment about we Scotties winning EVERY show, but, we have to leave room for others now don’t we? Birds? That would be fun to release some Kismets at the next Westminster show!!! YEAH!!!!! Wait…I’m not a bird dog.

I’m confused today. AND, before I forget, I second your emotion about “it” dogs. Sad, but true. People just don’t think do they?????? Nope. Nada.

Off for a little snooze before breakfast.

    ArooooOOOOOOO! Stuart

  2. Well there were only five Scotties in the group to win to go into the end round. Come on where were the Scotties? We need more represenatives!!!
