Wordy Wednesday

They say bad things happen in threes. We have three and don’t need more.

1) He went to start up the Scottiemobile to go to work and it wouldn’t start. It was the bother and expense of getting and installing a new battery.

2) Sunday evening, we had no water in the house. The well man is in the middle of a big job and hasn’t come yet. Not to worry, we’re all very neighborly here and help each other out. Here’s what we do and it may help you if your water goes out (like the pipe from the street breaks and your house is without water but the neighbors have it. You have to get a five buck adapter at a hardware store, but you only need one that can be shared among many houses-you shouldn’t have that many of these situations at once. The adapter has 2 female ends and enables you to put a hose on the outside spicket of the house without water and he other end of the hose (or hoses-we need a couple together to reach the other house) and the other end on a house with water. Turn on both spigots and both have water.

3) Kenzie is about the same. He’s not as lethargic since we took him off the anti-nausea pill. The vet wrote us a prescription for lactulose and he started it yesterday. We’re starting with small amounts because it is used as a laxative in humans and works the same way on dogs, but it draws toxins out of the liver. We need to get him to the point he has loose stools but not diarrhea. Hopefully when we find the right dose point, it will work. He’s only eating about 8 tablespoons of food a day and we have to work at that-a tablespoon at a time, hand fed.

He is still very thin and weight gain would be wonderful.

After all that, I need to relax a little bit, kick back and smell the cactus.

Pees: got your green bean stand at our events, bring an armored car to carry away the loot.

  2. We have had sucess with eating of Science diet a/d.. Can size of tuna can has1150 calories, you must get at vet’s office at bit pricey at $1.79 but ill eat it is you stick it to roof of my mouth like peanut butter..might help get a few more calories in Kenzie.

    • The vet has Kenzie on Royal Canin renal formula. Kenzie eats some of it. He’s always been a picky eater and I am the beneficiary-getting what he doesn’t want. We might try that because Kenzie eats one thing for a couple of days and then doesn’t eat it anymore. When he won’t eat this, we’ll give that a try.

  3. Yep there are times like that, ufortunately they seem more like the norm anymore!
Your cactus is sooo pretty, but I don’t count over 800 flowers which my cactus has produced so far this summer. Kenzie we are still keeping you in our prayers.

    • Just wait until March when the big guys come out but until then, no flowers from them. This cactus blooms about six to eight times a year and the flowers are super.

  4. Aww! Poor Kenzie looks so skinny. Hope he picks up soon.

  5. We still have all of our paws, fingers and toes crossed for Kenzie.

  6. Hope Kenzie is improving!
