Liver problems

Six months ago today, I lost my buddy Kenzie because of liver problems.

SAM_0216I’ve dedicated this blog to him and he remains on the masthead.

Yesterday, the vet called with my test results. The reason for the delay was that he had to consult with a specialist. The abdominal x-ray showed nothing strange and that’s good because I abhor abnormal abdomens. The thyroid test for all sorts of stuff the thyroid produces shows I’m not getting enough of that stuff. The most troubling thing was that the blood test showed somewhat bad levels of liver enzymes. I’m feeling great, my appetite is back (I’m always begging for food) and I’m barking at the garbage truck. A few weeks ago I felt lousy, wouldn’t eat much and ignored stuff like garbage trucks. We’ll continue with the treatments I have as long as I do well. If I start feeling unwell, I may have to do the ultrasound thing and stuff to supplement the thyroid. I’ll be taking two anti-biotics and two pain pills that I wasn’t taking two months ago. Along with my regular stuff, I feel like a real druggie and I’m addicted. Not to the drugs, but to the wet food that the drugs get wrapped in so I ingest them. Take away my drugs and you take away some of my food. I wouldn’t like that.

  2. Thanks, you mad guys.

  3. We’re thinking of you, and remembering Kenzie too! Finlay will only eat freshly roasted chicken – last week it had to be warmed up, this week it has to be cold! Scotties hey!

    • Fresh roasted chicken!!! Hot or cold, I don’t care. Try boiled potatoes and for treats-sweet potato chips roasted in the oven with no seasoning. Hopefully Fin and I both will get well.

  4. Chronic illness is no fun. The Help has a problem and she takes loads of pills – without the food as well! And of course we went through it with Zac. Really hope you stabilize and do well on the pills you are taking. It can be scary when things go wrong, especially when you’ve already lost a pal. Thinking of you.

  5. Thinking of you and wishing you well…Trev sends a woof and a big hug!!!!

  6. Sound like take this pill to help this and then take another pill to help that. Well just as long as they keep having pills you are good. Glad you like the food they put the pills in.

  7. Hey gurl, I’m glads your still feelin’ goods! I’m not so happy abouts the liver stuffs. The thyroid really isn’t too big a deal, just another pill. (More food!! hehee) I’ll be keepin’ my paws crossed that they stabilize, and you are normal…BOL!!! ‘NORMAL’?? hehehe
    Sorry, drifted there….
Kenzie sure was a handsome fella. Sorry I didn’t gets to know him. {{hugs}} to you. It must be a tough day today.
    Kisses,
    Ruby

    • Kenzie was a stubborn terrier to say the least. But he was my buddy and I was seven months old when he joined us. He was six weeks old then. He left too soon. What’s this about me being normal? Never.

  8. We remember Kenzie fondly. We’re happy you’re back to eating and barking at stuff. That’s a scottie life!

  9. We miss Kenzie too. I am glad that you are feeling good and have drugs. I bet you have hugs too. You can say hugs and drugs instead of hugs not drugs! Ha! I can try to be funny like but I’ll never match your wit. Hope you’re getting lots of sympathy loving too!

    • I’m not the cuddly type-I like to be near people but not cuddled.

      • Yes, you’re a good scottie. I remember ours were the same – right next to us but not ever in the lap. I think that’s why I marvel at Mr. Fox’s baby dogness. As long you are happy and healthy that is all that matters.

  10. Glad they have you under control and that you are terrifying the garbage truck again.
Can’t beliebe 6 months have passed since Kenzie left, time flies.

  11. I know it must still hurt terribly, having lost Kenzie. These wounds leave terrible scars for us. I am, however, really glad that you are getting some decent treats now and not having to live on boiled potatoes – yuk!

  12. I love my green beans and carrots-I get them too. Now, They’re mixing in egg whites (no yoke at all) also. Whooopie-I feel like Julia Child is my personal cook.

  13. Relieved with the good news and all paws crossed everything else (thyroid and liver enzymes) get resolved. We’re BOL for you, our friend. Max & Bella and biped mom, Paulette

  14. Thinking of you Kyla and paws crossed you stay fit and healthy. Hope you has a nice vet.

  16. You keep getting better Miss! It is what Kenzie and the rest of us want. Hope your liver is okay, they can be a worry in us Scotts…

  17. Keep on feeling better Kyla. You need all your strength to keep an eye on Kaci!

  18. It’s hard to keep up strength on my diet.

  19. We can’t believe it has been 6 months already – sending you and the peeps licks and love, Kaci will never be forgotten.

We sure are glad that you are starting to get some answers regarding your health…we are keeping our paws crossed though that the treats and wet food keep coming.

    LICKS,
    Wally & Sammy
