To Thine Own Self Be True

It’s British Open time in my ancestral home of Scotland. My peep thought He’d do me and the game of golf (hey, He broke 100 once in his life and then went to the second nine) a tribute so He helped Himself to a Bottle of British beer. Or so He thought.

SAM_0606What could be more British? It has Royal Lions, says “Union Jack”, and everything screams British Isles. On closer inspection, the bottle says Firestone-Walker Brewing Company, Paso Robles, California! If you’re going to brew a beer in the US, don’t copy someone else-it just ain’t right. Make a good American India Pale Ale and be proud of it. When he was in Panama for a year, they (Destiladora Nacional) made “Scotch Whisky” very close to the canal (the canal water was better). They should have tried to make a world class Panamanian rum.

SAM_0605At least that’s the way I see it. Β That’s why the sun has never set on the British Empire-everybody’s making British stuff all over the world.

  8. Kyla, you’re right. Once we bought a “bavarian” wheat beer made in china. My dad was happy to see this beer here, because he tried it once and he liked it ( no idea why, he has a wilde taste, he likes licorice too) The beer was like dishwater and the worst was, that my dad bought 24 bottles.

  11. BOL! That is like my grandpeep’s favourite Japanese beer (Sapporo) He found out it was made in… Canada… :/ Then sent to Australia!

    • The last I looked, that’s further away than Japan, even if it’s made on the Pacific Coast of Canada. Forget it if it comes from the East Coast.

  12. […] for today’s subject. Recently I exposed a fraud in beer labeling. Well, I found another. Knowing my weakness for hot sauce to go on my green beans, I was given a […]
