No, they’re golden torches. I’ll have to do my ocotillo post some day. There’s an ocotillo a few feet away from the cactus in the last two pictures but you can’t see it.
Nope, just a seed pod that I wouldn’t call a fruit. The saguaros have a fruit and humans use it. I’ve never seen a little one of these grow-just cuttings from an adult to make new ones.
I love these bright flowers, especially in desert landscaping! We live in the dry brown West Texas plains, and any spot of color is a delight! That fluffy little furkid out for a summer stroll is pretty cute too! 🙂
These cactii aren’t native to Arizona (South America, I believe). They need just a touch of extra water once in a while and if that works for Arizona, it should work for Texas also.
You’d be a great gardener over here on our soggy wet and very green island if that’s what you can grow in the dessert or is it desert?? Toenails getting in the way!
That looks great! I wish I had the large one for my back yard. As my mom was a puppy she and her freaky cousin peeled and ate a cacti, because her cousin said it’s a cucumber with prickles.
They are beautiful, but I’m the puppy (turned 11 last week and thanks for the compliment). I write this blog in my style. The peeps have no say except to correct my doggie punctuation.
Wow. Pretty. How do dey taste?

Thorny question.

Sometimes it comes out at Christmas time and that’s a big plus.
Flowers for a pretty lady. You’re the best my Kyla friend. (Say “hey” to Kaci and Kismet.)
ArOOOO! Stuart
Kaci says “Hi, Stu” and Kismet says “Squawkkkkk”.
Those are stunning Kyla…we have none like that at all, and the ones that do bloom only do it once a year…Just curious…do these also have a fruit?

It’s getting more like red and gray.

I’ll show you my garden soon. Mollie started it. There’s special stuff I have to do here.

They make prickly pear cactus jelly. Cactus is in Mexican cuisine. I bet it didn’t taste like chicken.
both were sick and humanoide fountains. And a poor nurse spent hours to remove the cucumber-prickles. But I would like to try cactus jelly :o)
nice.
Thanks
wow what beautiful flowers on the cactus! and your puppy is so cute!
