Update on my health-I’m getting better and no cone (regular or inflatable) needed.
I came across this article and I can’t believe it.
http://priceonomics.com/why-dont-people-adopt-black-pets/
and I think it stinks (being a formerly black dog rescue) and Kali agrees (being a black dog rescue).
Kaci doesn’t care but I’m mooning the situation.
Whee think it’s furry sad that black kitties take longer to get adopted but whee had no idea it was the same for doggies. Sadly with small furries it’s red eyes that get passed over. These are things that whee can’t help anymore than hoomans can help how the look. It’s genetics. If only they were less superficial

Red eyes? I guess some humans consider that the “evil eye” look.
If it makes you feel any better we rescued a big old black flat coat retriever. She’s the very best baby we could have ever picked.
Have a woof woof day. My best to your mom. 🙂
I was about to say that black dogs are great. Whoops, I’m grey now.
So happy to see the cone & inflatable are retired!
Hopefully so, but one of us might need it in the future, but I don’t with the cone on anyone and the inflatable, though better, isn’t as good as being totally free.
How could anyone not love someone as cute and adorable as a black scottie dog.
Amazingly, I agree with you.
Yes unfortunately there are always groups that are discriminated against or even sometimes just one person faces the harshness of being bullied and picked on. Yep your post hit home today.

Just remember-we all love you and Lee.
Kyla in the comment you left me you had TY4BAF. Does that mean something???
Or were you just pounding on the puter?? With missing a pinkie it must be hard to type.

Black is beautiful. Rescues are even better. You are the bestest. LOVE YOU!!!! Hooray for being coneless.
Love you guys back. And I can do it coneless-YIPPEEE!
Oh I read abouts that! That is horribles! I thinks black and tan, um…I mean BLACK is beautifuls!! I remember that some shelters and rescues would get volunteer Professional Photographers take some pawsome shots of the doggies and their adoption rates skyrocketed. They posted the photos online and put the pics on the outside of the kennels too, and that helped to give another view of the doggie.
Good job givin’ them the ‘moon’!!! hehehe
Oh, that is FABulous that you can go collarless!!! Yea!!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
I think part of the problem is that black dogs with dark eyes don’t photograph as well as others. That’s why Westies (I’m a Westie fan, you know) are used (abused) in commercials more than Scotties (or Airedales). They’re just so darn cute with their black eyes and nose surrounded by white fur. For every dog adopted, there’s ,,,
Glad you Coneless, Ahhhh inflatableless, will call and let Bites Know, he will be prancing round the pit area showing how happy he is tomorrow. Power to the Black & Whites Scotties, Yep and the Westies! Humm don’t know if I ever seen a black Westie
Susie
A Westie is ALWAYS white by definition (West Highland White Terrier), so nobody else has seen a black Westie either. It sounds like the inflatable cone is right up your Dad’s and Bites’ alley-and you don’t have to inhale fuel fumes.
I always think it’s kind a crazy thing to think about black dogs not being adopted. My whole life we’ve only ever had black or mostly black dogs, all adopted. I always wondered if maybe the odds aren’t skewed against them since black is a dominant gene therefore there are already more black dogs than not.
Glad to see you’ve escaped the cone for awhile!
I can see that from your blog. They never thought about that when adopting. When They were looking for a dog, They wanted a terrier because terriers and terrier peeps are happier with each other. They didn’t care about gender, age, color, breed or anything else other than the terrier really needed a home and was a fit. I’m the first one They met that fit the bill. Done deal!
My peeps must prefer black, I’m black and very handsome I might add, Shit mom’s cat is black, our cows are black except one she’s red, and most of mom’s wardrobe is black something about making her look thinner. Glad your coneless and better.
Aroo to you,
Sully
So you also see how silly that preference is.
Well, I’s white, but momma likes all colors. She are always goin on bout how cute you scotties are. And we one of da cats we got is black and white, so I guess we got da best of both worlds dere.
Sounds like you have it covered. My BFF, Kenzie, was a full blooded Westie and Kaci is half Westie.
We’re always surprised by that statistic. My peep is third generation Scottie owner. They always had black or brindle pups (until they became salt and pepper). When her pup, Piper, crossed the bridge, just looking at black Scottie’s made her weep. That’s when she found me! Guess what, wheaties are not the standard look, so they gets looked over. People are so silly.

You are right there. They don’t know perfection when They have it.
Am I counted as a black pet, Kyla?
Anyway, being dog idiots, it was only after Donna was adopted that the shelter told us black dogs are more susceptible to ticks…
But in reality, it seems like our longer hair dog friends are more susceptible to ticks than Donna! regardless of colour. 😛
I hadn’t thought of that. We don’t have fleas or ticks here so it isn’t on my mind. I guess that at least the ticks love us 🙂
Well, I can do without that love, thank you! 😉
I’d heard this about the black doggies and kitties. I always thought it was because they are hard to photograph. Poor babies. I recently found a chocolate lab mix puppy at my school. He had blue eyes. He found a home right away. I hope all the black puppies are so lucky. We are like your peeps – we look for dogs that we connect with. I’m glad you’re doing better.
Alyssa, Mr. Fox & Scruffy
They’re going to try to get black ones next time. We have 3 right now and that’s a handful (of terriers). I guess there has to be a white one also because the house is decorated with black and white dogs.
Well black is good luck over here. Have a serene Sunday. Hope you are looking forward to some big easy today.
Best wishes Molly
You don’t have the black pet problem? Black dogs are preferred? I’ll be right over.
PS forgot to say yeaaaaa to no cone of shame.
Molly
Thanks-it makes such a difference.
I agree with you, that’s a shame. Specially black animals are beautiful. Humans are totally crazy, first they make a movie about a black horse, called Black BEAUTY! and then they ignore black dogs and cats.. I’m glad the cone-time is over!!!
There’s going to be a new Kyla rule-all my cones must be filled with ice cream. I give it to everyone-you are all free to adopt it.
It’s the most ridiculous reason for not adopting
Totally irrational and humans pride themselves on being “intelligent”.
SHE was very surprised while in Texas a few years ago when there was a campaign to adopt BLACK dogs. SHE (always having black scotties and other dogs) had never even thought there was a problem. Actually, after having her clothes and furniture covered in white Roxy hair, SHE’ll stick to black….BOL!
So glad you’ve got the collar OFF!
They have 2 but didn’t know there was a problem. They’ll always have at least one white dog because a lot of the house is decorated with a black and white dog theme.
*sigh* hoomans are a species unto their own.
We are pleased to hear that you are on the mend Kyla!
Wally & Sammy
They have a “screw loose”, certainly.
