Was that Noah’s ark that just floated by?

UPDATE: TV reports that New River got over 5 inches (13cm) of rain in five hours at one point. It’s still raining on and off. The flooding has washed away a van. There’s a woman getting rescued by helicopter from her home. We’re OK because we have Kali who drinks water like a fish.

People think that the desert is dry all the time. Most of the time that’s true but when Mother Nature wants us to have some water, she lets it fly. This morning we learned the real meaning of New River

SAM_1393

SAM_1394We won’t have to replenish the water in the pool for a while

Now the peeps know how I feel-They don’t feel like going swimming today either.

  1. Yep, when it rains in the desert, it rains and then some. Yes indeed.

Have a woof woof day. My best to your momma. 🙂

  2. We’ve changed plans for the day and aren’t going anywhere.

  3. Whoa, I guess nothing is subtle about desert weather. When it rains, it certainly pours.

  4. Wonder if that will trick all the cactus into blooming AGAIN this year?

  5. “When It Rains It Pours! I think it might be to late to start on the Ark.

  6. OMD that is some rain. Try and stay dry. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly

  7. The rain and the cactus make for a pretty photo. Have a great day,

    Aroo to you,

  8. I wonder if Kharma is enoying herself?

  10. Looks like the pawfect weather for some margaritas!!!! You ain’t goin’ anywheres anyway, so get the pawty started!!!
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  11. OMD! Wet isn’t the word! Bet Karma is happy wherever s/he is. We’ve been having rain, but nothin’ like that! Glad Kali will drink most of it. But does that mean the peeps downstream will have yellow water?

  12. T’was a bit of a gully washer, I agree. Coming home just a few minutes ago, there were people, kid you not, under the bridge on CF Hwy taking pictures of the new river that was once Cave Creek Wash. You could white water raft down it right now! Waiting for the rescue vehicle sirens to start sounding when one of those idiots falls in!

Just let 56 paws into the back yard – dirt horse property. Send your well wishes that I will be able to get all of the mud out of the house sometime this week!

PS: Tell Kali we’re up for a visit to the waterhole we went to last time if she’s game this weekend! Just don’t tell your Mom!

  13. Does this happen a lot? Does it get super hot after? I am glad you are staying in for a day of rest!

    • No, only about once every five years. The last 2 years there wasn’t much. It gets humid, but the temperature is 80F 27C compared with the normal 110F 43C with low humidity (like 5%). Give me the low humidity option any day.

  14. I think dat you should start buildin an ARK.

  15. Dat’s a lotta rain. I think ya needs a boat.

  16. Nope not the ark, that was Frankie Pirate ship heading for another battle.

    The Mad Scots
    Pees: Please don’t drown!

  17. Do you really go in the pool? We hate water. Mom is spastic about us going out to the pool area. We are usually stuck in the screened patio area.

    • ME, POOL??? No way. If I’m even placed at the top step where the water is only up to my knees, i FREAK. Kenzie, the Westie (RIP), loved the pool and used to jump in and take a couple of laps voluntarily.

  18. I thought of you today when I heard about rain in your neck of the woods–YIKES! I hope you stay dry and I hope your paw is feeling better too!!

    • We feel for those on the other side of New River (about 10 miles or 16 km away) both the peeps and the misplaced animals. We can’t get there from here right now and vice versa. My paw is secondary. We’ve had offers from friends in Phoenix to take us in for a while (3 dogs and bird included) but it’s not necessary-we’re fine.

  19. WOW, we didnt know that it rained where you are at!! Have fun with all that water.

  20. Holy Moly! Glad you guys are ok and haven’t floated away!
    Alyssa, Mr. Fox & Scruffy

  21. GOOD GRIEF! We hope your peeps have water wings for all of you.
    Wally & Sammy

  22. I’m so glad that you and your family are okay. Gosh, if it isn’t one thing, it’s another. Usually, this is fire season. This year, floods, here in Colorado too.

  23. OMD!!!! I’m glad you are ok!! The only problem with Kali drinking all of that water is that she’ll have to go pee a lot, and there’s no dry ground to go on. Can she pee in a lake?

PS.-Can you send some of your rain to us please? We’ve had the lowest rainfall in 60 years where we live. (less than 2.5 ” for the whole year!!) I want to play in the water!

    ♥ Behr Behr 🙂

    • The weather isn’t fair. Some have so much it hurts and others so little it hurts. Just remember the old sayings that are tried and true in a drought-“shower with a friend” and “drink wine, not water”. I don’t even know where you are-your about page doesn’t say (one of my human peeves-I hate the phrase “pet peeves”).

  24. Who would have thought it floods in the desert… glad you guys are safe!
