Not again.

Yesterday we went to the dogtor. I wasn’t scheduled to go but I was licking my front right paw a lot and They tried to put a bootie on it.  Normally my attitude about this is a laid-back “whatever” because I know I’m getting a yummy after it’s over. Then They hit a really tender spot and a really sharp pain caused me to uncharacteristically snap at Them.  They tried again, same spot with same result (duh). Tuesday was flood day and we didn’t even want to try to get to the vet (12miles-20km one way and we didn’t have a boat). Wednesday was vet catch-up day for those who couldn’t get there on Tuesday and also flood related problems-emergencies only. So we went yesterday (Thursday). The vet started feeling around. On the leg where the toe was amputated, there was an enlarged lymph node. He continued but then the spot was hit. Since the vet was warned, there was a vet tech restraining me. What’s worse than the cone of shame? Yup, they muzzled me. They took Xrays. Here’s the relevant one:

KylaXray20140821Can you see on the right leg on the left side just above (or below in this Xray) the wrist that there’s a growth that isn’t on the other side? That’s a concern along with the enlarged lymph node on my right rear log. Either of them could be cancerous (spread from the melanoma in my amputated toe or independent of that) or just an infection. If it is cancerous, it hasn’t affected the bone which is a good sign-there’s no dark area on the bone next to it. We’re hoping for infections and the vet has me on an anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic. Yesterday was National Senior Day and now I feel like it with all those prescriptions. Hopefully, these take care of both. I’m going back on September 3 for my Addison’s Disease shot anyway and they’ll evaluate the progress. If it is cancer, they won’t subject me to chemo or radiation and just let me live as long as I’m enjoying life. I’ve already beaten the odds for Scottie longevity and the vet said that there’s no sense making me miserable and curing me from cancer to have something else get me.

I never thought I’d say this, but I hope I have multiple infections.

  1. We’ll have paws crossed for infection (and NO cone.)

We felt like we were doing one of those find the differences puzzles. We’re not sure we found it!

    • On the leg on the right and on the left side of the leg that almost touches the wrist, there’s a white “mystery” bulge that isn’t there on the left leg.

  2. Me and Nellie hope it is an infection too. We think you are being very brave and our doggy thoughts are with you.

  3. Ai yai yai! We’re sending warm and loving thoughts and hoping for the best. Positive thinking and the power of the paw! I refuse to “like” this post. I dislike it a lot.

  4. I never thought I’d say it either, but I hope you have multiple infections too. Really. Anything else will have me crying. Really. We are all crossing our paws, fingers and toes and sending good thoughts and healing vibes to you.

  5. Oh dear – more dogtor visits on the horizon. I hope it’s just an infection, as I’m sure you do, too. I do have to say, Scotties take the best X-rays! I can even see the pads on your feet! You have very nice nails. Paws and toes crossed…
