We’ve had a metal Scottie “Welcome” that sticks in the ground. We painted it black but the paint has worn off and there’s a rust color to it now which is the style in these parts. Our Oregon dachshund cousins recently gave us a Westie. The question is, so we repaint the Scottie black and paint the Westie white, or do we go with the custom here and let them get “rust”ic?
I’m no help at all lol, I say if the “custom” is to let it be rusty, than so be it. If not, I would paint it black. (Hmmmm….”paint it black” good name for a song title 😉 )
It won’t gather any moss, that’s fur sure.
I would march to the beat of my own will and paint the Scottie black and the Westie white. But that is my taste.

That was my thinking. If it were a parrot, I’d want it blue with an organge beak. Come to think of it, how come we don’t have a parrot one of these.
Rust what you talking about man ~ that is a rich patina!
Sweet William The Scot
I will admit that it takes a while to get rusty in the desert.
Both rustic or Scottie black and Westie white
That’s the choice. We weren’t going to paint one and not the other. It’s either B&W or rustiic.
Rustic I think
Whatever will scare the reptiles most.
That would be the peeps when they first get up.
Scottie black and westie white!
So noted. You don’t see many Westies here and hardly any Scotties so it would be an education effort.
Mama and I vote for crusty and rusty on the Scottie. We think that’s pretty cool. Let the Westie weather down, and then decide.
That rust takes a while in this desert. The Scottie is over 10 years at the same location.
Well….sometimes when the sun shines on us (the scotties) We’re sort of rust coloured, too. Bwahaahaa!
I guess you could call it a brindle. The Westie is another story.
We like the rustic look, personally 🙂
Edgar and his mum
Yes, it is a matter of taste and so noted as far as the vote goes. There are things to be said for both ideas.
Crikey …… we live near the ocean so we know all about rust. Mum says paint one black and one white. She doesn’t like rust too much.
Especially on your vehicle-my peep had that happen right next to the ocean in Pacifica, California just south of San Francisco. The rust from the salt was terminal.
I think you should just go look for another dog to match the “rustic” one. Someone is sending you a sign. You need a redhead!
OOOOH, yes. The best suggestion yet. Although right now, it’s gotta be saving a life.
I’ve seen plenty of redheads in shelters, and I know they would love to join all of you, especially in barking at dangerous creatures outside the window.
If they’re anything like Kali, we’d have our hands full. She was returned to rescue once before. We’re sticking with her.
Repainting sounds like it will eat up at blog reading time. We say leave it rusty and devote all time to Blogville.
That ought to give us 87 more minutes a day to annoy Blogville-watch out.
Dere is no such thang as a black westie. We is named West Highland WHITE terriers fur a reason. Nuff said.
I could have predicted your answer.
Yeah, we’s white. Unless we’s been playin in da mud, but even I has never been DAT dirty.
I definitely vote for the rustic look. Very ” On Trend”.
I told you that the local custome was rustic. Sara is close by.
I vote to put some dirt on them and grow some stuff. I like Chia Pet Green.
Kali, that’s the dumbest suggestion ever.
You’re right, Kaci. Besides, there is no such thing as Chia Pet Blue (unfortunately).
Paint them black for the scottie and white for the westie,xx Speedy
OK-you’re opinion is noted.
We decided to chew the question over while we were having breakfast and we are both in agreement – go rustic.
Wally & Sammy
That way we can tell the difference between them and you?
to have “rusty” decorations is the dernier cri here (they sadly think that counts for cars too). they call it Steele and you have to pay more for the rusty pieces than for the brandnew thingies what need a while till they look rusty :o)
I guess it is like the case where broken-in jeans sell for more than brand new ones.
I should open a ripping-station for that jeans… :o)
I’m thinking “rust-ic” !
Hugs, Sammy
I guess it’s closer to Ginger.
Fresh and glossy is always nice, but I get the fact you’re dealing with some serious sun but kind of like that rustic look. Wishing you loads of sunny skies. 🙂
If there’s one thing we have in abundance, it’s sunny skies.
I think whatever you decide will be just fine.
Have a terrific day. ☺
So that’s a firm “maybe”.
I’d go turquoise with the Scotty and bright orange for the Westie. Southwest, baybee!
No polka dots?
They look beautiful the way that they appear, although I like Maxwell’s idea. He must be a Dolphin fan.
I also thought his suggestion was a lot more very southeast than southwest.
Paper mache them!! 😛
