Interesting stuff

Don’t get put off because this is about US football. It’s not about the game but some interesting stuff.

Yesterday was the penultimate football game. It was held at the University of Phoenix stadium.

Yesterday was an exhibition game of players from all the teams except the last two who will play for the championship next Sunday in the same place-the Super Bowl Yesterday was the Pro Bowl. Here are some shots before the game:

SAM_1649What’s interesting here is the field. It’s a semi-domed stadium and the opening to the outside on the roof is like a car that has a small sunroof. Even open, the sunlight isn’t enough to grow grass and the field is natural grass. How do they do it?  They don’t use artificial lights, either. They simply roll the field (it’s on rollers and tracks) outside! It’s to the right in this picture-the seats there are removable and when the grass has had enough light and there’s an event, they roll it back in and erect the stands again.

Here’s a view of the press box. Oscar Madison was nowhere to be found.

SAM_1650I told you this wouldn’t be about the game so we’ll fast forward-anyone who cared already watched it on TV. Right after it was over, the crew got busy preparing the stadium and field for the big championship game next week. Notice the work space suspended from the ceiling for some reason.

and the work trucks approached

SAM_1651Next week’s report on the Super Bowl should be interesting also.

  1. They take the Grass fur a Roll and a Stroll… into the sunpuddles? THAT is fascinating. We just pee on grass here on the hill… We have never THOUGHT of taking it.. somewhere. Wonder if it would like a ride in Jessie Jeep?
Guess we will have to wait until the Snow all melts off to give it a try though.

  2. A behind the scenes look at all the work for that stadium. Most people haven’t a clue how much work goes into this sports space. Awesome and thanks.
